DROP OUTS 2010

It’s that time of year again.  It’s time for those who think that it is CWA’s fault for all of the work related and contract problems with AT&T.

I wish it was so one sided then we would get every thing we wanted.  It “ain’t” that simple, folks.

Here is a list of those, so far, who have chosen to leave our ranks.

Andrew Culbreth – BAPCO

Timothy Lowell – BAPCO

Charles Thomas – BAPCO

Christine Gatz – BAPCO

Mike Mooney – BAPCO

Barbara Tripp – BAPCO (she sent her letter to us although she works in Jacksonville and is not a member of Local 3101).

AT&T MOBILITY NEWS

On October 11 we met with the Mobility leadership for our 1st quarterly Leadership Relations meeting. The purpose for this meeting is to improve the relationship between management and the Union. The main discussions centered on the Grievance procedure including the process, records request, and a better understanding of the responsibilities of all parties. There was discussion of the T-Mobile acquisition, the new Scheduling tool, and of course the new commission structure. Although there were some positives from this meeting there is also great room for improvement, especially when it comes to contractual rights. It was quite clear that local management has little to no knowledge as how to operate within a bargaining unit, which seems a little odd considering the fact that they have been dealing with one for at least 5 years now. It is up to you to know your contract, talk to your co-workers, and get the local involved when you believe your rights are being violated. You should be informing your supervisor of your rights not asking them what they are!

AT&T UTILITIES

  2009 Utility Operations Contract

The District has established a Task Force consisting of one Local President from each state to meet with the District and discuss ways we can get important messages to the local members and engage them to action.  We have developed a card for members to sign up to participate in mobilization activities and are currently distributing throughout the District.  We have also created an online version of the form.  Members can access the form from the CWA District 3 Homepage (http://district3.cwa-union.org)

In addition, Locals who wish to promote member sign up from their website can click on the following link to obtain the code to add a “You can count on me” button to their website which will take members to our online form.

We cannot stress enough the importance of getting every member involved, so that we can show the companies we deal with that we are united.  The stronger the Union, the stronger the contracts.

Thank you all for your cooperation and assistance in this very important campaign.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

 In Unity,
Don LaRotonda

Assistant to the Vice President
CWA District 3

???Benefits???

Expanding on what I mentioned in my report when it comes to your contractual benefits. It has become too often that I receive a call that someone has been injured and lost pay due to a refusal of disability or lack of accommodation by the company. I always get these calls after the fact. We have been very successful at getting the denials overturned or pay reinstated. This is a very time consuming process that can be avoided with the local’s involvement from the very beginning!!! Please contact your steward as soon as you are injured (on or off the job) or prior to any planned medical procedure in which there will be absences associated. We can assist in the process and therefore be better able to assist when something goes wrong, which it usually does! Dealing with the Integrated Disability Service Center (IDSC)/ Sedgwick (contractor to at&t) is always a difficult task. In the end it is your responsibility to provide them with documentation requested but the local can help clarify want is being asked for and what their decisions actually mean to your situation. The local is aware of the process throughout and can advise members of what needs to be done now and what will the next step be (appeal, grieve, etc…).

Just recently I took advantage of the tuition aid program and had the pleasure of dealing with Acclaris (contractor to at&t) and discovered that, like most other bargained for benefits, the company requires you to jump through hoops to take advantage of them. The local can help with this!! If it has anything to do with you/your family and this company we are here to help!!

The triangle symbolizes the three major programs of the union: Representation, Organizing, and Community/Political Action. None can stand alone. If the triangle is broken on any side, sooner or later it will be broken on every side. CWA's founding president, Joseph Beirne, called this the "triple threat.
